Wairua Sinfonietta is a unique Auckland-based orchestra whose musicians believe in the power of music to strengthen communities and unite the world. As New Zealand’s only fully volunteer-based orchestra dedicated to raising social awareness and funds for charitable causes, we bring people together through inspiring, high-quality concerts that foster generosity and support. By partnering with like-minded musicians and supporters, we create uplifting musical experiences that increase awareness and raise funds for charitable organisations both locally and globally, building a more connected and compassionate community.

Harrison Chau, harp
Harrison Chau is a freelance harpist based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, blending classical expertise with a passion for diverse musical genres. A graduate of the University of Auckland with a degree in classical music, he also enjoys exploring jazz and improvisation on the harp. Harrison finds the greatest joy in music-making through the connections it fosters within the community, inspiring his collaborative approach to performance.

Elizabeth Lau - Artistic Director, Founder
Elizabeth Lau is a distinguished musician and educator, renowned for her versatility as a conductor, collaborative pianist, double bassist, and music coach. She is the Founder and Creative Director of Wairua Sinfonietta, a non-profit orchestra uniting emerging and professional musicians to support global charitable causes. In 2024, she also founded the Wairua Youth Sinfonietta alongside an exceptional music team, expanding her commitment to nurturing young musicians.
A graduate of the University of Auckland, Elizabeth made history as the first to earn a Master’s degree in Choral and Orchestral Conducting. Her academic journey spans composition, collaborative piano, and double bass, with studies and performances across Australasia, Europe, and Asia.
Elizabeth has conducted internationally and held prominent local roles, including Former Music Director of community choirs, Deputy Music Director of Auckland Choral, and Director of Music for various school orchestras in Auckland. She is currently Deputy Music Director of Bach Musica and a member of the artistic team at the New Zealand Children's Choral Academy. Additionally, she has worked with the School of Music String Orchestra and the University of Auckland and is frequently invited to lead workshops and adjudicate competitions throughout New Zealand.
Career highlights include assistant conducting the world premiere of LEN LYE (2012) and participating in the 2021 world premiere of Ihitai 'Avei'a – Star Navigator, an opera co-composed by Tim Finn and Tom McLeod.
Beyond music, Elizabeth is passionate about cultural exploration, art galleries, and creative expression through visual art and photography.
